Films in 50 words-ish: El lapiz del carpintero (The Carpenter’s Pencil)

Sadly, El lapiz del carpintero (The Carpenter’s Pencil) was the only film I managed as part of this year’s Viva Spanish Film Festival in Manchester:
A weird obsession with metaphor meant nobody had their own voice in this disappointing Spanish Civil War film. Its irritating hero’s survival became ever more ludicrous and devices like the pencil were wasted. Barely 2 out of 10.
