Very new Blogger Lee Pennington has already given us a glimpse of what it might have been like last Sunday when Katharine, Critter and I hosted a party to watch Derrida, the eponymous documentary looking at this post-modern philosopher. I’m not going to offer an alternative reality to that Lee has presented. Over time the faded memories of the dozen or so participants will go with them to grave. All that will remain is what is written and that will become the most accessible version of the truth.
Anyway. On to my fifty words:
A watchable documentary on Derrida the man, a tack that fits his claim that a philosopher’s thought cannot be separated from his being. That said, Derrida’s own playing of games (‘I will only give facts’) and apparent self contradiction generates more confusion than understanding. But that’s probably the point.
I’ll go as far as 7.5 out of 10.
