Rembrandt’s lazy eye: why don’t artists wear single eye patches?

It turns out that Rembrandt had stereoblindness: a lazy eye that meant he saw the world as flat and so, presumably, had no perspective. Not a condition that would be much use to sporty types, I presume, as no matter how closely he watched a ball, he’d probably never catch it. (There’s a Friday afternoon office game; catch with one eye closed.)

Nevertheless, a good thing for a painter or so they say: just paint what you see. But does such a condition make Rembrandt a cheat? And, more to the point, if a lazy eye is such an advantage, why don’t artists wear single eye patches?
