?? Scroll right down ??

UPDATE Thurs 30 June: Here’s the permanent solution. Why Blogger had to make its new image code so very complicated is beyond me.
UPDATE Tues 28 June: Blogger’s acknowledged the problem and posted a fix, but it doesn’t work.
UPDATE Mon 27 June: Sadly the 25 June fix doesn’t work for Firefox users. However, there’s an alternative. Insert ‘.blogPost div {clear: none !important;}’ into the style sheet. This fixes me (well almost) for IE6 and partially for Firefox (which doesn’t really display this site very well anyway).
UPDATE Sat 25 June: Well you can see that the worst of the problem has been overcome. Should anyone be interested (someone with a similar problem, perhaps) I changed the line: ‘div#mainClm{padding:20px 20px 20px 180px;}’ in my style sheet to ‘div#mainClm{float:right;padding:20px 20px 20px 20px;}’. Without warning Blogger has started inserting ‘<div style=”clear:both;”></div>’ at the start of each post and ‘<div style=”clear:both; padding-bottom: 0.25em;”></div>’ at then end. I presume this second piece of code creates the unwanted gap between the end of each post and the ‘posted by line’ and can’t see a way to overcome that.

There you go. The geeks at Blogger are up to something and as you can see they’ve c***ed-up somewhat. Some of us sit and wait, others get mighty p***** off.

    Wow - looks like I got lucky that the first div tag doesn’t seem to have done anything to the look of my page! I think it might have something to do with the new image upload button they rolled out today, although why that should be so is beyond me.

    Yeah, I noticed it’s not affecting your blog quite like mine. You’ve nonetheless read my note to them. I still haven’t heard a peep about it yet. And this being Friday (at almost 6PM EST), I’m wondering if I will hear anything before Monday. I haven’t read anything in the status about this. And they really, REALLY need to be blogging just what changes they are making. They have totally screwed the email gateway, again, putting in code where there shouldn’t be among other things. I’ve complained, twice, and have gotten NO response other than the canned reply.

    Hopefully, since this is obviously affecting more than me, something will get changed.

    Thanks for the tip. You might be interested in knowing that it doesn’t seem to help those of us who are looking at your site in Firefox/Mozilla. At least, the version I’m using puts your blog entries underneath your copywright notice.

    Stephen -

    Yes, the problem is still asserting itself in Firefox.

    Try inserting

    .blogPost div { clear: none !important; }

    in the <’style> section of your template.

    I got that from http://www.bloggerforum.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6693&forum=2&jump=1 and it seems to be the most useful of the workarounds I’ve seen.

  5. Bryan Price says:

    OK, de Selby just beat me to the punch here. Then again, he IS the one that told me about that fix to start with.

    :) Thanks again!

  6. Mags says:

    Ta for the tip - will try tonight. Hopefully. Gah!

  7. Mags says:

    …and putting

    .Post div { clear: none !important; }

    into my CSS worked! Hurrah! It still doesn’t solve what on earth has happened to the paragraphs (I have to manually put in the <p> tags in order to get them to format correctly) but it’s a start!

Many businesses offer payment to those who link to them and paid-for links are often used here in preference to free links. While such links are not as obvious as other forms of pay-per-click advertising, they still don’t influence views expressed. Entries labelled ‘Reader Offer’ are advertising promotions.
