The Port Gaverne Hotel (or Port Gaverne Inn), was another great country inn, giving the Rising Sun Inn a run for its money. Once again the rooms are generous, and here there’s a rabbit warren of bars. The fixed price formal menu failed to catch our imagination (and clearly appeals to an older clientele), but the bar menu was just right. The pub excels at breakfast, I find kippers hard to resist. There’s nothing to Port Gaverne itself, but it’s only a short walk into Port Isaac, which couldn’t be more picturesque, and if wasn’t for the walk, we’d have missed the basking sharks in the bay.
