Look at me! Sitting outside Jackson’s Boat waiting for an ex-colleague. A decade ago this was one of my pubs and it was due to be demolished to make way for Metrolink (in theory it still is).
Now defunct Tetley Pub Company hoped to use the compensation to rebuild the pub on its football pitch. Local football teams don’t drink, at best they have a quick half. They wanted to get rid and create a more family friendly environment. There was quite a lot of anti-sports club sentiment at the time. One Liverpool licensee burnt his club’s kit because he wanted a car boot sale instead.
