These lights shine upon Razorlight performing on the Channel 4 Stage, V’s second. The pic’s taken from the distance of the main stage. Razorlight may rank among the most derivative and self referential of bands, but at least they’re honest about it. Who else would begin: ‘The songs on the radio sound the same’? It must be galling for the terribly bland Coral that Razorlight’s ‘In the morning’ charted higher than theirs. Razorlight’s trick was to add a dash of the Corrs ‘So young’ to the mix.

Can student music get any more vacuous? In retrospect, I preferred it when they were into Steps rather than going on about getting pissed and waking up to dirty sheets. When I was a student everyone had experienced drunkenness before university, so it didn’t seem such a big deal. And do we really need to know Razorlight shit the bed when drunk?
