I’m quite a fan of The Kooks first album, Inside In / Inside Out and I’ve been looking forward to seeing them this V Festival. They offer the highest quality Brit Pop, combining catchy tunes with intelligent lyrics, chilled but danceable, fun but serious. They confidently stand head and shoulders over their peers.
But even I’m surprised to see them headlining the Channel 4 stage — V’s second — with just one album under their belts. New work seems a little overdue. And new work is what we were promised for tonight. But Primal Scream beckoned and while the Kooks are good, they’re not that good.
