This is the view from the cheap seats of the Manchester Evening News Arena, still the most popular music venue in the world, with the stage still smoking courtesy of Sophie Ellis Bextor.
It’s fairly civilised up here, with no queue for toilets or refreshment, but still I missed the incident. Take That took to the stage, behind the curtain, but visible from here, reports Katharine. Much excitement ensued followed by a flash of flames that caused the band to evacuate. Some witnesses were reduced to tears, convinced the show would be cancelled.
As I write fire fighters can be seen inspecting the apparent seat of the fire, but it’s too dark for me to get a pic. I’m confident this will turn out to be a minor incident.
