It comes down not to race or gender (although being black or male considerable enhances your chances of being on death row), but education.
Like race and gender, a poor education is a product of the accident of birth; ending up in a deprived area with a failing school, say. So (and especially with race and gender removed from the mix) it’s clearer that that real culprit is social class.
