Black Gold: the Movie

Okay, I know it’s short notice and not everyone’s in Manchester, but Katharine’s asked me to plug Black Gold, a documentary she saw it at an event organised for Co-op, showing at Cornerhouse this week only, on the coffee industry.

This award winning film – Sundance, Rome, London, Melbourne, Rio De Janioro – makes a compelling case for fair trade.

Black Gold is on general release, slowly touring the country. The number of screens it reaches will partly depend on how well ticket sales go at early screenings, including those at Cornerhouse. So just by placing your bum on the appropriate seat, you’ll be helping to raise awareness of various issues surrounding coffee and the ethics of international trade in general.

  1. You can see it at the Lowry in Salford as well as part of International Co-op day on July 8th, from 12 till 5. Along with a fair trade fashion show, exhibitions, stalls, etc and a presentation by Tadesse Meskela, the main person in Black Gold.
