I’ve no intention of ever having kids, but the Daily Mail’s latest tizzy – ‘Small firms count the cost of six-month paternity breaks’ – could not be more nonsensical. And it comes as yet another report reveals how hard it is for women to save for an adequate pension. They undo all their whinging in paragraph three:
‘But where the mother decides to stay at home to bring up her baby full-time, fathers will get nothing.’
With each father who stays at home replaced by a mother who’d otherwise stay at home, there should be no problem. Unless, of course, a business has deliberately avoided employing women of child bearing age to avoid the risk of her having children… and who’d condone that sort of thing?
