Films in 50 words-ish: Etre et Avoir (To Be and To Have)

Buy it!So determined to romanticise the small school lost in rural France, this film fails to reveal anything behind the traditionalist façade. Time passes idyllically with the seasons. But then comes the sudden, almost shocking, twist. Teacher has bonded with his pupils after all and some of them even have ‘issues’. Something did happen over the year, but Etre et Avoir failed to document it.

A generous 1 out of 10.
