Films in 50 words-ish: The Fog of War (Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara)

There’s little doubt that documentary film making is where it’s at right now. Charlize Theron deserved her Oscar for playing Aileen Wuornos in Monster, but you if you haven’t seen Nick Broomfield’s Aileen, you’d think she was hammy. And then there’s Fog of War

Morris gives 86 year-old McNamara – the Rumsfeld of Vietnam – a platform from which to survey his life and is rewarded with a circumspect openness that assures the film’s historical value. The lessons are Morris’s reading and occasionally seem forced, but work with archive material and Philip Glass’s soundtrack to ensure this talking head is never dull.
The definition of 10 out 10.
