The Good Soul of Szechuan, Library Theatre, Manchester

Bertolt Brecht’s The Good Soul of Szechuan at the Library Theatre immediately reminded me of the same theatre’s production of Waiting for Godot. We seem to be in a dreamlike, perhaps post-apocalyptic world in which a weird and wonderful satire on religion unfolds.

Naive gods rush to judge the good, while tolerating the bad. Their true agenda unclear, they seem only interested in preserving the status quo, insisting that good can flourish in a world where it has not.
