An over stylised beginning heralds ultimately empty acts of extreme violence that expose the darker male psyche without considering explanation or meaning. As the film settles, its weaknesses – embarrassing script, unsympathetic characterisation, glaring plot holes – become ever more apparent. The beginning that ends it brings relief for the wrong reasons.
