‘I pledge to play my part in reducing this city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent by 2010, to help the UK meet its international commitment on climate change.’
– Manchester is My Planet
My ticket for An Inconvenient Truth came with an invitation to take the Manchester is My Planet Pledge, which sounds like a great idea. If Manchester were the planet, I’d never have to visit Wales ever again.
Sadly there’s a bit more to it than that. I’m supposed to do something to reduce my home’s CO2 emissions, which is bit harder than signing an online petition. I’m including the recent installation of a new boiler (which I expect to reduce my gas consumption by loads) as part of the deal and I’ve just ordered an A+ energy rated fridge freezer. This will of course reduce my energy bills, the proceeds of which can go towards my next shopping trip to New York… oops!
But seriously. Think about what you can do and, if you’re in Manchester, sign up. And it’s not only open to proper Mancs you can sign up if you’re Greater Mancunian (Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford or Wigan) too.
