Mark Ronson, V Festival 2007

Click to see ‘Mark Ronson, V Festival 2007’ in a variety of different sizesI’m going to put my head above the parapet and admit that I quite enjoyed Mark Ronson’s version of The Smiths’ Stop Me, a live snippet of which is on my YouTube channel.

I think horns are fun, but I’m not convinced all the stuff on his album survives the big band treatment. Britney Spears’ Toxic is hard to stomach. And there’s a fear that if you find yourself listening to Mark Ronson, the next small step is probably Pan Pipes.

We have Jo Whiley’s Live Lounge to blame for the current fuss over covers. Predictably most of the new versions that come out of her Live Lounge are bloody awful, but still the kids text in every time with: ‘now they’ve slowed it down, you can really hear the lyrics!’
