Perlan (The Perl), Reykjavík, Iceland

The Perl (Perlan), ReykjavíkPerched on Oskjuhlid Hill is Perlan, or The Perl, a set of six hot water tanks one of which now houses the Saga Museum. At one time the the city’s hot water was stored here, but the tanks were unsightly.

Placing a glass dome on top of those tanks changes all that and creates a concert space and home for a revolving restaurant. The wooded grounds include hiking and biking trails, an artificial geyser and access to Nauthólsvik, Reykjavík’s manmade sandy beach.
