The Revenger’s Tragedy, Royal Exchange Manchester

It may be a strange phrase to use, but the The Revenger’s Tragedy was a joy. A violent, ugly, bloody, punk farce reminiscent of both Shakespeare, with whom it’s contemporary, and A Clockwork Orange. It was a joy in part because it’s so refreshing when the Royal Exchange moves away from Shakespeare, Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde on whom it over depends, but mostly because the production was so good.
